Finding the right match for your wedding band is a mix of both practicality and style. There’s a lot of choice when it comes to wedding bands, and if you will be wearing these things for the rest of your life, it should be picked and considered carefully.

Be specific with the details

If your partner surprised you with an engagement ring, you’ll find a further surprise in how detailed and difficult the process actually was. Getting the right ring size, thickness and metal types all factor into why your engagement feels just right to wear. While most of the issues of the ring have already been solved (we often consider this as one of the most difficult things to do, especially in secret) you’ll still need to find the right details in order to get the perfect match.

While you can often use the same ring size, you’ll need to check how your engagement ring currently fits. One interesting fact is that sometimes your ring size can subtly change over the year, depending on things like temperature etc. If you notice that your engagement ring is a bit tighter or looser than it usually used to be, then you’ll need to go for a resize and make sure that your wedding band also fits the matched size.

When it comes to the metal types, you’ll have to consider the karat purity of your metal, as there is often a subtle difference between 18k yellow gold and 9k yellow gold, for example. As a general rule, the 9k variants tend to have a more duller, softer look that would stand out when sitting next to a ring that is 18k.

Classic Solitaire Engagement Rings

As one of the most popular types of engagement rings, the classic solitaire is designed to accentuate the centre diamond as much as possible. For this reason, we’d recommend going for a simple plain band which sits nicely to the diamond, giving it prominence. This adds a nice metal layer to the overall look and keeps the overall feeling clean and minimalistic.

Side Stones / Halo Engagement Rings

As an object of pure glitter, using side stones or a halo design instantly add a feeling of texture to the entire hand. Seeing as how these particular engagement rings contain much smaller diamonds, a full eternity ring lines up nicely with these designs, complimenting them even further and giving a very nice shine. You can match up the carat weight of the smaller side stones to the exact carat weight of your new wedding band to make sure you get the exact match you need. Although full eternity rings aren’t traditional wedding bands, they certainly fit more expensive tastes.

Bezel Engagement Rings

The layer of metal surrounding a diamond in this particular setting is also known as a “bezel” which is incredibly useful at keeping the diamond safe. Unlike the prong setting, where the centre diamond is clasped firmly between four-six prongs, the bezel has a much more rounded look. A wedding ring that similarly contains small diamond(s) set inside the wedding ring compliments the bezel look very nicely,

Uniquely Shaped Engagement Rings

In the case that your engagement ring features a unique shape, in the sense that your centre diamond sticks out at a particular angle, then you would need a contoured wedding ring that will wrap around that particular shape. This kind of step will require a lot more detailed advice, but you will need to identify where your engagement ring sticks out and then find the exact curve that will slot in nicely.

Bridal Sets (or Matching Sets)

If the search for an exact match isn’t going as planned, then you might want to consider giving yourself a complete upgrade with a bridal set. With a perfectly paired engagement ring and wedding ring, you can take care of two tasks at once as well as go through the joy of shopping for a brand new ring. If your partner went through a lot of trouble to buy your current engagement ring (they probably did) then you will at least get to experience it from their point of view. A nice bridal set means you can stylistically match both rings together without having to worry.
